Our Specialized Circumcision Protocol for babies without the Vitamin K shot
The decision to decline Vitamin K at birth is a parental choice, and we respect that decision completely.
That being said, when Vitamin K is declined, there is an increased risk of post-circumcision bleeding. It is for this reason that we created a slightly stricter "No Vitamin K Protocol".
Most Mohels leave the baby without a bandage after the circumcision, and will depart immediately following the procedure.
We have implemented extended on-site observation, we also remain local (sometimes overnight) following the procedure in order be available for emergencies, and we often leave an overnight protective bandage to mitigate bleeding risk. We also ensure 24 hour direct accessibility afterward. Parents feel comfortable reaching out all throughout the days and nights following the circumcision.
These situations are handled with structure, preparation, and individualized assessment — never as routine.
Parents are encouraged to discuss medical decisions with their pediatric provider.

Testimonials

Dr. Gildener-Leapman, MD-ENT
"Rabbi Golish was very professional, very concerned about details and the baby’s needs. He stayed in contact until we confirmed that the baby was completely healed. As a surgeon myself, I noted he was organized, efficient, and capable during the circumcision. He was friendly and approachable. I can recommend him as a Mohel without reservation."

Dr. Martin Dauber, MD-Anesthesiology
"Rabbi Golish performed the circumcisions for two of my grandsons, and I was thoroughly impressed by his exceptional skill and professionalism. As a physician, I deeply appreciated his meticulous technique, steady hand, and evident expertise throughout the procedure....Rabbi Golish exemplifies the highest standards of both technical proficiency and personal integrity—he is truly outstanding in his field."

Dr. Brian Sacks, DO, Neurology
"Rabbi Golish provided excellent care to our child and really made me and my family feel comfortable answering all of our questions during the circumcision. He explained all of the religious aspects of the ceremony, provided detailed instructions for the circumcision healing, and even checked in the next several days to make sure the recovery was going well. If we have another son I will definitely be asking Rabbi Golish to perform the circumcision again."

FAQs
Both hospitals and independent circumcision practitioners (mohels) can perform newborn circumcisions safely. The difference often comes down to experience, specialization, convenience, and the overall family experience.
In a hospital setting, circumcisions are typically performed by physicians whose practices include many different procedures and responsibilities. An independent circumcision practitioner (mohel) focuses specifically on circumcision and performs the procedure on a regular basis.
Many families appreciate the advantages of an office, home, or private-setting circumcision, including:
More personalized attention and communication
Flexible scheduling options
Direct access to the practitioner before and after the procedure
Detailed aftercare guidance
Follow-up support during the healing process
A calm, family-centered environment
Parents often tell us they feel more comfortable knowing exactly who will be performing the procedure and having the opportunity to discuss questions, concerns, and expectations beforehand.
At Family Circumcision, every family receives individualized care from the initial consultation through the healing process. Questions are encouraged, concerns can be addressed directly, and parents receive clear instructions on what to expect before, during, and after the circumcision.
The best choice is ultimately the one that makes you feel most comfortable and confident. We are always happy to discuss your options and help you determine whether our approach is right for your family.
Yes. Rabbi Shlomo Golish is an experienced mohel who has been performing traditional Jewish bris ceremonies for more than 15 years.
In addition to circumcision services for families of all backgrounds, traditional Jewish bris ceremonies are available for families seeking a religious circumcision performed in accordance with Jewish tradition.
Whether the bris is taking place in a home, synagogue, banquet hall, or other setting, we are happy to help guide families through the process. We can assist with questions regarding timing, ceremony logistics, customs, and what to expect on the day of the bris.
If you are looking for a traditional Jewish bris, simply let us know when you contact us.
Families may choose between a circumcision in the comfort of their own home or an in-clinic appointment.
Many parents appreciate the convenience and familiarity of a home circumcision, while others prefer the dedicated setting of a clinic. Both options provide a private, comfortable environment and allow ample time for questions, aftercare instructions, and follow-up support.
Our clinic is conveniently located on the border of Jackson and Lakewood, New Jersey, making it easily accessible for families throughout the region.
If you are unsure which option is best for your family, we are happy to discuss the advantages of each and help you choose the setting that makes you feel most comfortable.
Yes. Home circumcision services are available throughout much of the Northeast.
We regularly serve families throughout New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Connecticut, and Delaware. Whether you are located in a major metropolitan area, a suburb, or a smaller community, we are often able to travel directly to your home for the procedure.
Travel availability may depend on distance, scheduling, and the age of the child. If you are located outside our primary service area, please contact us and we will be happy to discuss your options.
For families who prefer not to have the circumcision performed at home, appointments are also available at our clinic location on the border of Jackson and Lakewood, New Jersey.
Yes. In addition to newborn circumcisions, Family Circumcision also provides circumcision services for older infants, children, teenagers, and adults.
The approach, setting, and recommendations may vary depending on the age of the patient and the specific circumstances involved. During an initial consultation, we discuss your goals, answer questions, and determine whether Family Circumcision is the right fit for your situation.
If you are inquiring about circumcision for an older child or adult, please contact us directly so that we can discuss the available options and what to expect.
For families who choose circumcision, the newborn period is generally considered the simplest and most common time to have the procedure performed.
During the first few weeks of life, babies are less mobile, healing is typically quick, and aftercare is usually straightforward for parents. This is why most circumcisions are performed during infancy.
That said, circumcision can often be performed beyond the newborn period as well. Some families choose to wait for personal, cultural, religious, scheduling, or medical reasons. The appropriate timing can vary depending on the child's age, health history, and individual circumstances.
If your baby was born prematurely, spent time in the NICU, has a medical condition, or was unable to have a circumcision shortly after birth, it may still be possible to schedule the procedure later. An evaluation can help determine the safest and most appropriate approach.
Every child and family is different. We are happy to discuss your situation, answer questions, and help you understand your options.
Yes. We perform circumcisions for babies who have not received a Vitamin K shot.
Because Vitamin K plays an important role in normal blood clotting, babies who have not received Vitamin K may require additional precautions. Depending on the circumstances, this may include scheduling the circumcision on or after the eighth day of life, when newborn clotting factors are generally at their highest levels, the use of a protective bandage, additional observation following the procedure, and increased availability for follow-up questions.
Every baby is evaluated individually, and we discuss any special considerations with parents before scheduling. Our goal is always to provide the safest possible experience while respecting the decisions that families make for their children.
Pediatricians routinely recommend Vitamin K because it helps reduce the risk of bleeding in newborns. Parents should discuss the benefits and risks with their healthcare provider and make the decision they believe is best for their family.
If your baby has not received Vitamin K, please let us know when you contact us so that we can discuss your specific situation and answer any questions you may have.
The cost varies depending on the age of the patient, the location of the procedure, and other individual circumstances. Because every situation is different, we encourage parents and clients to contact us directly for a personalized quote. We are happy to discuss your needs, answer questions, and provide clear pricing before scheduling.
Unfortunately, no. Circumcisions performed by independent practitioners and mohels are not covered by insurance, and insurance companies do not reimburse for these services.
While some providers may offer a receipt upon request, families should not expect insurance reimbursement. If you have any questions about fees or payment options, we are happy to discuss them before scheduling.
Like any procedure, circumcision involves some degree of discomfort. However, the actual circumcision itself is very brief, typically lasting only about 30 seconds to one minute.
Most babies remain surprisingly calm throughout the appointment. Parents are nearby, babies are comforted with sugar water, and many infants spend much of the visit resting, feeding, or being held. When babies do become upset, it is usually during the brief moments of the procedure itself rather than throughout the appointment.
Every baby is different, but most settle quickly afterward and are able to feed, be held, and return to their normal routines shortly after the circumcision. In some cases, parents may choose to give infant Tylenol afterward if needed, although many babies do well without it.
At Family Circumcision, we take every reasonable step to promote a calm, comfortable experience for both babies and parents. If you have questions about comfort measures, pain management, or recovery, we are happy to discuss them before your appointment.
The circumcision procedure itself is very quick and is usually completed in under a minute.
Most of the appointment time is spent preparing, answering questions, reviewing aftercare instructions, and ensuring parents feel comfortable with the process.
Parents are often surprised by how brief the actual procedure is. While every child is different, the circumcision itself is typically completed much faster than the time spent discussing care before and after the procedure.
After the circumcision, families are given time to feed, comfort, and hold their baby. Detailed aftercare instructions are reviewed, and parents are encouraged to ask any remaining questions before leaving.
Many appointments last between 30 and 60 minutes from arrival to departure, although this can vary depending on the family's needs and whether additional time is spent discussing aftercare or answering questions.
Our goal is never to rush families. We want parents to feel informed, comfortable, and confident before, during, and after the circumcision.
In most cases, yes. Parents are welcome to remain present during the circumcision if they wish.
Every family is different. Some parents prefer to stay close to their baby throughout the procedure, while others feel more comfortable stepping out of the room and returning afterward. There is no right or wrong choice.
Many parents find that being present helps them feel reassured and involved in the process. Others prefer not to watch the procedure itself but appreciate being nearby and available immediately afterward. We respect either preference.
Following the circumcision, parents are encouraged to hold, comfort, and feed their baby. Most infants settle quickly once they are reunited with their parents.
If you have concerns about what to expect, we are happy to discuss the procedure in advance and help you decide what will make you feel most comfortable on the day of the circumcision.
Our goal is to create a calm, supportive experience for both babies and parents.
Not much. Please bring your baby, diapers (usually one size larger than your baby normally wears), and baby wipes.
We provide the supplies needed for the procedure, along with detailed aftercare instructions and guidance on caring for your baby during the healing process.
If there is anything additional needed for your specific appointment, we will let you know in advance. Our goal is to make the process as simple and stress-free as possible for parents.
Newborn circumcisions heal remarkably quickly. In most cases, approximately 90% of the healing takes place during the first few days after the procedure, with the remaining healing occurring over the following days.
Most families notice significant improvement each day, and it is common for the circumcision site to look substantially healed within the first week. Complete healing typically occurs within 7 to 14 days.
As part of the normal healing process, parents may notice mild redness, swelling, or a yellowish healing layer on the circumcision site. These findings are generally expected and gradually resolve as healing progresses.
Detailed aftercare instructions are provided following the procedure, and we remain available to answer questions throughout the healing process.
